Summary
A new application process has been introduced for this grant, which will make applying for the grant smoother and more efficient.
This means that if you started an application before 08/08/2024, its status will show as “grant closed” in your Find a Grant account and you will need to start a new application. Please restart your application by going to the new application form via the 'Start new application' button above. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes.
The grant provides electric vehicle (EV) drivers with support towards the costs of the purchase and installation of EV chargepoints at residential properties if they are also installing a cross-pavement charging solution (e.g. a cable channel). An electric vehicle chargepoint grant can help towards the cost of installing an electric vehicle chargepoint socket at your property. You can get 75% off the cost to buy and install a socket, up to a maximum of £350.
You can apply for this grant if you:
Own or rent a residential property in which you live
Will install a cross-pavement charging solution alongside the chargepoint (for you to be eligible for this grant the cross-pavement solution must not be a temporary solution, such as cable covers or mats which can be placed on top of a cable).
Have not already installed the chargepoint (as this grant cannot be backdated)
Have adequate on-street parking as defined by your local planning and highways authority
Do not have private and exclusive access to off-street parking such as a driveway, garage or residential car park
Have permission from your local planning and highways authority to install a chargepoint and a cross-pavement charging solution between your home and the approved parking space
Own or are responsible for an eligible vehicle
Some local authorities may be able to offer financial support towards the cross-pavement charging solution, and this should be explored by the applicant directly with their local authority.
Guidance for local authorities on implementation of cross-pavement solutions is under development. In the interim this should not preclude local authorities from granting permissions for local installation of cross-pavement solutions.
Eligibility
This grant provides support towards the costs of the purchase and installation of EV chargepoints at residential properties when also installing a cross-pavement charging solution.
In order to be eligible for this grant you must have all relevant permissions from the local planning and relevant highways authority (where the highway is public land).
There are some instances where private landowners control and manage the road and you may need to secure additional permissions in these instances.
The cross-pavement charging solution market is developing and not all planning and highways authorities, devolved administrations and private landowners currently approve their installation. Some are in the process of developing internal policies tailored to their local area and the required permissions may vary.
Ultimate discretion over these permissions remains with your planning and highways authority (and where applicable the private landowner).
Adequate on-street parking
The property must have access to adequate on-street parking. This means that street parking is generally available outside or near your home, that the on-street parking provision is lawful and does not serve to prejudice the safety and free flow of vehicular and pedestrian traffic. This includes ensuring the road is sufficiently wide to allow easy passage of traffic. The final decision on whether your property has access to adequate on-street parking is with your planning and highways authority (or where applicable private landowners), who will determine whether a cross-pavement charging solution is suitable to serve your property.
This grant does not confer ownership over, exclusive use of, or reserved access to any on-street parking space outside of or near to your home and cannot therefore guarantee you a parking space. You therefore may not have constant access to the funded chargepoint.
You will not be eligible for this grant if you have private and exclusive access to off-street parking such as a driveway, garage or residential car park.
Vehicle Requirements
This grant is only for people who have vehicles on the list of OZEV-approved electric vehicles.
You can apply for this grant if you:
Are the registered keeper of a new or second-hand eligible electric vehicle – the registered keeper is not necessarily the owner of a vehicle, but the person responsible for the car that pays for road tax and MOT.
Are assigned a company car.
Lease an eligible vehicle.
Are named by your employer as the primary user of an eligible electric vehicle.
Have ordered an eligible electric vehicle.
Vehicle Leases
If your vehicle lease is a bundle with a chargepoint, it must:
State that you own the chargepoint once payment is complete
Itemise the cost of the chargepoint and installation, including VAT
Ensure the chargepoint warranty meets the grant requirements
Ensure the associated vehicle lease is for at least 6 months
You must show your installer proof that you own or lease your electric vehicle.
Property Requirements
This grant is for domestic properties only. You must own or rent the property and be a resident at the property.
The grant cannot be given if the installation of the chargepoint and / or infrastructure was a mandatory requirement.
Outside of the permissions set out above, you must also get all necessary third-party permissions, such as from a landlord, freeholder or managing agent of a flat, before you apply for the grant and install a chargepoint on the property.
To be eligible for the grant, you must arrange and agree with a relevant local authority for a company to install a cross-pavement charging solution (the cross-pavement solution must not be a temporary solution, such as cable covers or mats which can be placed on top of a cable). You must not install cross-pavement solutions on the public road network yourself.
The property must be located in England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland. If your property is in the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man, it is not eligible.
Grant eligible installers and chargepoints
You must use an OZEV approved installer to complete the installation of the chargepoint:
Your chosen installer must ensure that they observe the safety requirements which can be found in the supporting documents. You must also ensure that they install an eligible chargepoint model:

How to apply
How to apply
Contact an OZEV approved installer to get a quote for the chargepoint installation.
Contact an installer to get a quote for the cross-pavement charging solution. The chargepoint and the cross-pavement charging solution may be installed by the same operator or by two separate operators (you will need two separate quotes in this case).
Obtain any required permissions from third-parties for the installation of the chargepoint and cross-pavement solution (e.g. from your landlord, freeholder, or managing agent; or the owner of a private road).
Contact your local planning and highways authority to get permission for both the chargepoint and cross pavement charging solution and agree ownership for the cross-pavement charging solution. The permissions required may vary depending on your local planning and highways authority. Your local authority will provide you with formal evidence to support your grant application which you will be required to upload as part of your application.
Begin an application form using the 'Start new application' button at the top of the page. You may need to create an account for Find & Apply for a Grant if you do not have one already.
If you are eligible for a grant we will send you an email to notify you. It will include a Letter confirming the terms and conditions for payment of the grant, along with instructions on starting installation, and instructions for your installer on claiming the grant once your chargepoint is installed.
When your chargepoint has been installed, your installer will complete your claim via the claim form which can be found at grant guidance for installers. Your installer will submit details of your chargepoint, along with photographs of the cross-pavement charging solution and chargepoint installation and an invoice (or contract if applicable).
If your claim is approved, the grant will be paid to your chargepoint installer. They will deduct the grant amount from your invoice or contract if you are paying a subscription service. Your invoice will show the total installation cost minus the grant amount.
Audits
In some cases, OZEV may choose to audit your installation to check it meets the grant requirements.
